The Foundation Phase Teacher will be responsible for creating a stimulating, nurturing and structured learning environment in which young learners develop strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, life skills and social-emotional development.
The role requires a passionate and dedicated educator who understands the developmental needs of young children and can create meaningful learning experiences through inquiry, play, exploration, collaboration and purposeful use of technology.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a genuine passion for children, a commitment to academic excellence, and the ability to integrate the Christian ethos and values of Maragon Olympus into everyday teaching and learning.
Foundation Phase Teachers are expected:
To plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate and differentiated lessons across the Foundation Phase curriculum.
To establish strong foundations in phonics, reading, writing, comprehension and numeracy.
To facilitate learning through an inquiry-based and child-centred approach that encourages curiosity, questioning and exploration.
To create opportunities for experiential and collaborative learning.
To develop learners' confidence, independence, creativity and problem-solving abilities.
To identify and respond appropriately to the individual learning needs and developmental stages of learners.
To integrate digital tools and educational technology meaningfully into teaching and learning.
To create a warm, structured and inclusive classroom environment where learners feel safe, valued and motivated to learn.
To nurture learners' social, emotional, physical and spiritual development.
To demonstrate strength of character, integrity, patience and professionalism in all aspects of the role.
To develop positive and trusting relationships with learners, parents, colleagues and the wider school community.
To communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders in a positive, respectful and solution-focused manner.
Academic Delivery
Planning and implementing a purposeful Foundation Phase curriculum that develops strong foundational skills and inspires a lifelong love of learning.
Assessment & Reporting
Conducting appropriate formative and summative assessments, monitoring learner progress, maintaining accurate records, and providing meaningful feedback to learners and parents.
Learner Development & Well-being
Supporting the holistic development of each learner, including their academic, social, emotional, physical and spiritual growth.
Classroom & Behaviour Management
Establishing clear routines, expectations and boundaries while creating a positive classroom culture based on respect, responsibility, kindness and dignity.
Parent Partnership
Building constructive relationships with parents and communicating learner progress, achievements and areas of concern professionally and proactively.
School Brand Ambassadorship
Representing Maragon Olympus with pride and consistently modelling the school's Christian ethos, values and commitment to excellence.
Administration
Maintaining accurate learner records, planning documentation, assessment information and other administrative requirements.
Health & Safety
Prioritising the safety, supervision and well-being of all learners and adhering to all school health and safety procedures.
A B.Ed Foundation Phase Teaching degree OR a relevant degree with a PGCE specialising in Foundation Phase.
SACE registration and valid Police Clearance (non-negotiable).
2–5 years of Foundation Phase teaching experience, preferably within a private or independent school environment.
Strong knowledge and understanding of CAPS and Foundation Phase teaching methodologies.
Proven understanding of early literacy and numeracy development.
Experience in implementing inquiry-based learning would be advantageous.
Strong computer and digital literacy, with the ability to integrate technology meaningfully into the classroom.
Valid First Aid certification (advantageous).
