The Senior Artisan: Boilermaker / Fitter is responsible for the maintenance, fabrication, installation, repair, and optimisation of plant equipment, structures, and mechanical systems. The successful incumbent will provide technical leadership within the workshop, ensure equipment reliability and plant availability, support maintenance planning processes, mentor junior artisans, and ensure all work is executed in accordance with Company standards, safety requirements, and applicable legislation.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
- Qualified Boilermaker with a recognised Trade Certificate (Red Seal); or
- Qualified Fitter with a recognised Trade Certificate (Red Seal).
- Additional technical or supervisory qualifications will be advantageous.
Experience:
- Minimum 8-10 years' post-trade experience in a plant, mining, crushing, quarry, or heavy industrial environment.
- Proven experience in both structural fabrication and mechanical fitting activities.
- Extensive experience with conveyors, chutes, hoppers, crushers, screens, pumps, gearboxes, and related plant equipment.
- Strong experience in welding, fabrication, maintenance shutdowns, and equipment installations.
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring artisans and assistants.
- Excellent fault-finding, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
Licence
- Valid Code 8 Driver's Licence.
- Own reliable transport will be advantageous.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, schematics, and plant layouts.
- Sound knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Understanding of maintenance planning and preventative maintenance principles.
- Strong knowledge of plant safety procedures, lockout systems, and mining regulations.
- Experience working with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) will be advantageous.
