Governance Specialist / Governance Analyst / Governance Lead
We are seeking an experienced IT Governance Specialist in our Cape Town office (office based) to lead and mature our Technology Governance capability. This role is responsible for driving governance excellence across technology, ensuring alignment with corporate governance requirements, industry best practices, regulatory obligations, and risk management frameworks. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping governance strategy, implementing governance transformation initiatives, and embedding governance practices that deliver measurable business value.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Own and continuously improve the Technology Governance Framework.
- Design, maintain and mature governance policies, standards, procedures and operating models.
- Ensure alignment with COBIT 2019, Group Governance requirements, risk management frameworks and regulatory obligations.
- Provide expert guidance on governance principles, compliance obligations and control effectiveness.
- Lead implementation of the governance transformation roadmap.
- Manage governance maturity targets and improvement initiatives.
- Develop adoption strategies and embed governance practices across business and technology functions.
- Measure governance effectiveness and business value realisation.
- Integrate governance, risk and compliance activities into a unified operating model.
- Assess control design and effectiveness across technology domains.
- Coordinate governance responses to audit findings and regulatory requirements.
- Develop governance KPIs and effectiveness measures.
- Conduct governance maturity assessments and benchmark capabilities.
- Produce executive reporting and insights on governance performance.
- Identify governance gaps and recommend remediation plans.
- Facilitate governance committees and strategic forums.
- Drive awareness and education of governance responsibilities.
Experience Requirement:
- Proven experience in IT Governance, Risk, Compliance, Enterprise Governance or Technology Management.
- Demonstrated experience implementing governance frameworks within large or complex organisations.
- Experience interacting with Executive Committees, Audit Committees and senior leadership.
- Experience leading governance transformation initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Completed undergraduate qualification in Governance, Risk Management, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field.
Post-graduate qualification will be an advantage
Professional certifications such as:
- COBIT 2019 Foundation or Design & Implementation
- CGEIT (Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT)
- CRISC (Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control)
- CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor)
- ITIL Foundation or higher
- ISO 27001 Lead Implementer/Auditor (advantageous)
