The Financial Accountant: Logistics is responsible for ensuring the completeness, accuracy, validity and timely reporting of logistics financial information across monthly, quarterly and annual reporting cycles. The role includes preparing and reviewing journals, ledger transactions, supporting schedules and balance sheet reconciliations; managing accruals and provisions; and supporting month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes. Key responsibilities include analyzing logistics and distribution costs, identifying cost drivers and trends, explaining variances against budget and forecast, and translating financial information into practical insights that support operational decision-making, cost optimization and performance improvement. The role also reviews and reconciles logistics-related expenditure, including third-party logistics service-provider charges, transport recoveries, commissions and other operational costs, investigates discrepancies and ensures that issues are resolved accurately and timeously. Additional duties include supporting budgeting, forecasting, cost planning, working capital management and ad hoc financial investigations, as well as preparing clear and accurate financial and management reports. The Financial Accountant maintains audit-ready schedules and supporting documentation, assists internal and external auditors with information and explanations, and ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards, statutory requirements, company policies, governance requirements and internal controls. The role supports stock takes through attendance, verification procedures, investigation of variances and follow-up of corrective actions, and assists with fixed asset processes such as additions, disposals, transfers, physical verification and work-in-progress tracking where applicable. It also provides financial support to Logistics Operations, Finance, Shared Services and relevant external service providers by communicating financial matters clearly, resolving queries, providing analysis and supporting business requirements within strict reporting deadlines. The position is further responsible for identifying and supporting process improvements, strengthening controls, improving reporting efficiency and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the finance and logistics environment.
